Margi Curtis and THE NEXT BIG THING

Leigh Blackmore tagged me recently about being part of a chain of book and author recommendations under the title of THE NEXT BIG THING. In line with this concept I will answer the questions below on the first novel of my series in progress.

1) What is the [working] title of your next book?

The title of the series is WEAVE. The first volume is titled Seed of the Whitherborn

2) Where did the idea come from for the book?

This is the start of a very long story. I have been crafting this long tale all my life. There are many ideas behind it. Perhaps the central one of the nature of magic and women’s power arose from my experience as a witch and shaman in a sectarian western culture.

3) What genre does your book fall under?

I expect this would be categorized as Epic Fantasy, though it also has elements of other genres like Dark Fantasy and Paranormal Romance

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

There are many characters:
Anurae – Evan Rachel Wood
Grieve – (if he was still with us) Heath Ledger
Geleedon – Ben Wishaw
Earmin – Tilda Swinton
Jondel – Kenneth Branagh
Mordis – Joanna Lumley
Terred – Rufus Sewell
Estellin – Emma Thompson
Mordis – Toni Collette
Dringar –
Vine – Alan Rickman
Orin – Cillian Murphy
Rolando –
RAwl Redneck – Eddie Izzard

Boundrol – Russell Crow
Bringarille
Illisendolyn – Kate Blanchette

Nam
Brunu – Ian Holm
Mithering
Harlafen – Sean Bean
Larratim – Christian Bale
Dorsed
Henethillderin
Ermaron – Colin Firth

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A mortal girl, Anurae, and an immortal warrior turned musician, Geleedon, align their different magics to save their world and those they love from destruction, only to find that it is those they love who must be destroyed.

6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I have no agent though I intend to submit this without an agent. Self-publication as an e-book is possible.

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

Six weeks.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Riddlemaster of Hed by Patricia McKillop, Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Obernewtyn by Isobelle Carmody.

10) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Gaia

I am passionate about the Earth and need to tell this story to inspire others to think differently about magic, sex and politics.

What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?

I have an unusual take on magic, on gender identity and relationships and I bring an integrative approach to good and evil as I attempt to reveal both real characters in extraordinary situations, and extraordinary characters in ordinary situations.
